Hebrews 7 | Never Alone, Never Afraid

Why You are Never Alone: The Mystery of Melchizedek

The Isolation Challenge

Social media is built to hold our attention, often through eye-catching challenges. One famous challenge pays people thousands of dollars to live in total isolation. Most people quit the moment they see their family because we aren't meant to be alone. This struggle exposes two deep human fears: Am I alone? and Will I be okay?

A Priest Who Connects

Hebrews 7 answers these fears by pointing to Jesus as our High Priest. While a "priest" might sound like an ancient concept, their entire job is to connect you with the God who created you to be satisfied in Him. To explain this, the Bible looks back to a mysterious figure named Melchizedek.

The King of Righteousness and Peace

Melchizedek appears in Genesis as both a king and a priest. His name means "King of righteousness," and he was the king of "Salem," which means "Peace." This teaches us a vital truth: True peace doesn't come from the absence of conflict, but from the presence of righteousness and justice. He is a "type" or a "shadow" that points us to Jesus, the true King of Peace.

Beyond "Planned Obsolescence"

We are used to "planned obsolescence"—appliances designed to break once the warranty expires. The old religious Law was a placeholder that acted similarly; it could show you the problem (like a CT scan) but couldn't actually cure the heart. You don't need a priest designed to expire. You need one with an indestructible life.

Saving to the Uttermost

Because Jesus lives forever, He is able to save you "to the uttermost."

  • He Saves Fully and Forever: Every sin of every kind can be forgiven.

  • He Prays Persistently: Jesus "lives" to intercede for you. He is your advocate, presenting His nail-scarred hands as the final payment for your debt.

The Ultimate Safety Net

Many of us live with "Jesus plus" backup plans: Jesus plus success, or Jesus plus control. But God's Word says Jesus is the only safety net you need. You are far more secure than you feel because He never stops working to hold you fast. Stop trying to fix yourself and start "drawing near" to the one who lives to bring you to God.
