Hebrews 12:14-29 | Is God Actually Angry With You? (The 2 Mountains)

“The Change You Need”

Moving to Boston can feel like a whirlwind. Whether you’re trying to decode the "T" map, surviving your first winter, or witnessing someone pull a questionable U-turn in the middle of Hyde Park Ave, the learning curve is real. But once the initial "newness" wears off, a deeper question often settles in: How do I actually live a life that matters here?

In our recent series Hebrews: Jesus Over Everything, we explored how the Gospel isn't just a Sunday morning concept—it’s a practical framework for navigating the complexities of city life. If you feel like you’re constantly "running on a bad knee" relationally or professionally, there is a better way to move forward.

Redefining Your Relationships

In a high-performance city like Boston, it’s easy to view every disagreement as a battle to be won. But new life in Christ shifts our focus from "being right" to "seeking reconciliation".

  • Pursue Peace, Not Just Quiet: Real peace isn't just avoiding conflict because you're tired or stressed; it’s about dealing with sin and hurt fully so you can move forward.

  • A Training Ground: We believe the church should be a training ground for becoming "ambassadors of peace" in our workplaces and neighborhoods.

  • Striving Together: We aren't meant to do this alone. We need a community that spurs us toward holiness—not as a condition for being "good enough," but as a response to being fully accepted.

Trading Fear for Joy

Many of us approach God (and life) the "old way"—constantly terrified that we haven't done enough or achieved enough to be "impressive".

The Gospel offers a radical alternative: Access without fear. Instead of a mountain of "shouts of terror," we are invited into a "city of the living God" where the atmosphere is one of celebration and joy. When you realize your identity is secured by Christ’s record rather than your own performance, you can finally stop "pleading your record" and start living in freedom.

Stability in a Shifting City

Boston is a city of constant change. From career shifts to the general "shakiness" of the world, anxiety is a common neighbor.

  • The Unshakable Kingdom: The Gospel reminds us that while external things fade, we belong to a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

  • Practical Wisdom: Being "godly" isn't about avoiding big sins; it’s about placing God’s wisdom at the center of your everyday decisions—from how you handle work stress to how you treat your roommates.

"New life in Christ means practical changes to the way you live."
